Tel-Aviv Museum of Art

I love art. It’s one of the few things I hugely appreciate in this world. Though God didn’t  buck me with talent in painting, I am still nutty about colors and art in any form or shape. I can still remember when I was in grade school, I used to love watercolors, crayons and pencils. I used to draw those Disney characters with my niece/playmate Lanlan who has a huge talent in sketching and everything. I managed to produce a few fairish drawings but I lost my interest in it.

Last Saturday, Fany and I decided to go to Tel-Aviv Museum of Art. It’s centered at Shaul Hamelech and Ibn Gvirol here in Tel-Aviv. I’ve been there a couple of years ago but it was the time when they didn’t have the new museum yet. Last Saturday, I had the chance to prowl around the whole building and I was too ecstatic about it. I took some pictures with my mobile phone though I was not so sure if it’s allowed (ssshhh).

Fany paid about 27 NIS for herself because I’m allowed to go in for free. I don’t know exactly why but I think they thought that I might not able to understand what’s in there. I’m a Filipina and what do I really know about art? (would I feel offended or be happy coz I got in for free? haha!)

Anyways, here are some of the pictures I took and some of the description that I tried to recall. Hope you’ll enjoy it guys.

The huge arc entrance to Cameri and Museum

The Museum Building

YAACOV KAUFMAN: Running in Circles

Ex Libris by Chanan de Lange. This is recycled from old school desk and can house 20,000 books.

3D paintings. You need to wear those 3D glasses to see the entire concept of these paintings. Uh-mazing!

This is the room where they furnished the blueprints of the museum. From the old plans up to the future plans. I didn't fully understand it but these huge rollers really made an impression.

Stitched Face, 1974, by Yocheved Weinfeld

Winged Foot

Ze'ev Raban (1890-1970) Yemenite Boy

The Banana Man with his cellular phone, hehe.

I don't know but I think it is what it is.

This amazed me very much.

This is how they make movies during the old times.

Have a great weekend guys! :) ?

Wenz and Nic Prenup Photoshoot!

It’s been a while. Things has been sticky and chaotic lately. A lot of life changing moments happened to me and I didn’t know if I’ll get overwhelmed or just turn away from things like a boss. But anyways, ‘am back and I will slowly unveil the events since last month. For now, let me share the tiring but fun photoshoot we did last Sunday. This was the second time I did a prenup photoshoot. The couple didn’t expect much from me since they know that I’m still amateur when it comes to photography. However, the pictures turned out nice and they were frantically excited and fell in love with it. (Yes, buhatin ang sariling bangko).

I managed to produce 51 photos and the rest you can view HERE. Since I don’t know how to play with photoshop, I enhanced the pictures using picasa (lame) pic editor. Haha. Ok, I would be happy if you’ll call me “purist” then. We all had fun. It’s a one man photoshoot so I only had with me my camera and my Tamron lens. No reflector, no tripod and no extra battery hahaha! I’m just happy we pulled it through and the love birds was so appreciative. I compiled everything, printed it and album-ed it. I gave it as a gift to them. I wish them happiness and a healthy married life.

Hope you guys love it too. :)

Jerusalem Snapshots

Last week, I went to Jerusalem for the nth time and am still amazed with the solemnity of the place. I really can’t get enough of Jerusalem and everything in it. I was with a group of friends and we really enjoyed this trip. I compiled all the pictures I took. These are random pictures taken all over the place inside the walls of the Old City.

I think this is the 5th station of the Via Dolorosa

Found this musicians at the entrance of the Jaffa Gate. More like a celebration of St. Patrick's day eh?

The Wailing Wall

Rules to follow upon entering the Wailing Wall

We also went again to the Holy Sepulcher Church and I was able to snap some pictures inside and outside the church.

The Rotunda inside the church

People from all over the world came here to pay respect to Jesus' tomb

The ceiling of the Holy Sepulcher Church

Wall carvings outside the church

The pillars

The thousand years old Church bells

The most interesting chess set I've seen. Too bad it didn't occur to me to buy this.

I tried to rub it but Genie didn't come out.

Damascus Gate

Thanks to my friends for dragging me along. It was another significant and fulfilling trip to Jerusalem. We managed to squeezed in our prayers to the Wailing Wall despite of the fact that it’s Saturday and there are specific rules inside that everyone should follow.

I came with my tamron lens so I was able to snap some macro pictures and I really enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed editing it in Picasa to make it a bit lomo-ish.

Alright guys, I hope you enjoyed my pictures too. Wish you could experience Jerusalem too. The feeling is beyond compare and you’ll always have the same excitement and solemnity everytime you come back like it’s always the first time. If you want to see more of Jerusalem then you can check my previous trips HERE and HERE. I made a different blog post for the food that we ate during this trip. If you wish to see it then read it HERE.

Happy Weekend Everyone. :)

iPad App: Draw Something

Draw Something is the latest craze in the Apple and Android App market today and I, as expected, got hooked and addicted to this online game. It’s basically a guessing game where one player will draw something and the other one will guess the word. You can play with friends or you can pick random players who are online and you’ll both earn coins when you succeeded in drawing and guessing. You can use these coins to shop and buy bombs that will help you eliminate unnecessary letters and make it easier for you to guess the word.

It’s available for Android OS 2.3+, iOS 4.0+ for iPhone 3GS+, iPad 1 & 2, and iPod 3+. You can buy it at Apple App Store for .99 cents or you can download the free version (with ads and less colors). It’s super addicting and cool to play it on your android or iPhone but it’s totally kick-ass when you play it on iPad. The screen is wider and much easier to draw using your finger. I just hate it if the other player is playing like a dumbarseee and write the answer instead of drawing it. This is a “draw” and guessing game right?! Geez. So, this game completed my day today so I consider this as my Project WMYHT 100 Days Challenge: Day 13 :)

Anyways, here are some awesome drawings I saw online.

Lady Gaga

goalie

centaur

This made me laugh. hahaha!

AND! here’s my lame “art” hahaha! This is the only one I was able to save last night.

What the heck is that blue thing doing on my turtle's head? hahahaha!

So there you go guys, if you want to download this game, here’s their official site Draw Something. You can find this app in Apple App Store and Android Market. If you want to play with me then my username is iamsuperjulie. Enjoy!

Benefits of a Clean Room

Hey guys, I was dead tired yesterday and failed to even lift a finger and post something here (Twitter is always an exemption, yes?). But let me tell you why I was “coma tired”. I cleaned my room again. :) This time, I cleaned up like I want to put up an operating room and my cubbyhole needs to be sterilized haha. But it was really fun. Finally, I was able to finish, like totally cleaned up my room and arranged all the clutter that was left from the last time’s de-cluttering.

These are the things that was badly placed in my room and now they’re well-arranged here (almost). Clothes that I’m still thinking if I’ll give away or not, some shoe and camera boxes with some CDs/manuals/USB cables/receipts, some medicines, books and recipe books that I’m currently reading and some personal things that I need to cluster.

I still have to find a place for these things but for now, I’m so happy that I was able to put them in a place where I can find them easily.

And finally, I was able to set aside and clustered the things that I want to send to Philippines. Some clothes and things for my mom and brothers. They were like all over the place and now they’re neatly tucked in this corner.

I’ve already shelved some of my books here except for some that I’m currently reading. Happy to still find a place in this book-crowded area. I guess we need another bookshelf here at home.

Finally, I changed my bed cover and pillow cases. I usually change covers every 3 weeks because no matter how lazy I am to clean my room, I cannot stand a dirty bed cover. Period. (I just don’t understand why I have all these pinks all over me nowadays, haha)

Remote controls, cellular phones and cables are in place. My working table looks incredibly CLEAN and I felt weird when I saw it.

And look! I found a free spaces for some of my things. This is actually my other closet. It was so “kalat” that I didn’t realize that I still have empty spaces for more things. Look how my phones, remote controls and pens were arranged. Achievement yan! haha.

I took pictures of how kalat it was the last time but unfortunately, something happened to my lappy and I wasn’t able to save those pictures. I really wanted to show you the difference between then and now. I realized I have a very small bedroom and it became even smaller when I let all those clutters all over the place.

So after cleaning up my room, I really felt different. I was really tired but very light and peaceful and I slept well last night.

I thought about the perks of having a clean room and here they are:

  1. First of all, I felt stress free the moment I jumped on my bed after a warm clean bath. My room smells good and clean and it really gives a feeling of ease and content. Unlike when it was a still in a cluttered state, I was always grumpy and irritated.
  2. Messy room can attract rodents and insects especially if you have crumbs all over the place. I seldom eat in my room so I haven’t found anything here except for some very small spiders that was lurking on the cobwebs under my bed.
  3. If your room is organized, you can easily find the things that you need especially if you cluster them well. It will save you time and effort.
  4. you can maximize the space and make more rooms for your other things.
  5. A clean room will always makes you feel good and it changes your mood. It’s my second night and I feel really good. It’s relaxing and comfortable and I feel like I can publish 3-4 blog posts tonight. Haha!

You may think that this is another kababawan but honestly, this is like an accomplishment for me because I only do this once in a million years. I do clean the house, clean my room but not as clean as taking down all these things, wiping every corner, vacuuming and mapping the floor. But I’m really uber happy with what I have accomplished yesterday. Despite of feeling so tired, I felt happy and proud of myself. So Project WMYHT 100 Days Challenge: Day 12 — Done! :)

Am I inspiring na ba? or konti pa? hahaha!

Lorie: Julieeee..yung room mo parang hospital <—- this made me laugh hard. hahaha!

Random Happiness

I wasn’t able to make my Day 10 yesterday. I was too happy to jot it down here. Things are getting more clearer and happier on my end now. I am about to venture into something  good. I’m hoping these plans push through despite of my doubts with my capability to pull it off. Though I’m not really expecting things to happen immediately, I am still hopeful and will continue to pray for it.

Second, there’s a possibility of travelling abroad this year. I’m really looking forward to see the other side of the world. The next few months will be very busy for me but I hope September will come smoothly and the travel plans will get a green light.

So these are my Project WMYHT 100 Days Challenge: Day 10 (for yesterday). As for today, random things made me happy. Aside from the sumptous lunch I made for me and Fany, we were both happy that the technician came and fix Fany’s new (and bigger) Tv for her bedroom. I’m happy if she’s happy because I love her.

Nothing much today, I had a few good laughs with friends in facebook and I was able to read a few pages of the book I’m currently reading. I’m just starting to appreciate my life and realized how lucky I am to be here where I am right now. I also realized that when God decided to give you something, it’s 500x more than what you’ve asked for. :)

What Made You Happy Today Community Meme! Yey!

Project WMYHT 100 Day Challenge: Day 9 is up! And this time, it’s much more exciting because…….YES! I decided to share it with everyone! Yeheyyy!

My friend Lorie and I decided to put up a facebook group for those who wants to participate with WMYHT Meme. I also made a badge that you can grab (see my sidebar) ———>>>

The purpose of this Meme is to document the things that made you happy every single day. I always believe that no matter how screwed up your day was, there’s always something that made you smile or something that should be thankful for. This is also a fun way of counting your blessings. At the end of the week, you can reread your posts and it will somehow make you realize how blessed you are.

Sometimes, we tend to ignore the blessings that we have and we always spend much time complaining and ranting. But we didn’t know that everyday of our lives, God is giving us enough things for us to be happy. All we need is to appreciate it whether it comes in big or small packages.

The badge is linked to What Made You Happy Today Facebook Group (not to my website). This group aims to build a community of friendly and Happy People. We will support, encourage and help each other and at the same time we will try to build not just a community of bloggers but a group of people bound by friendship and love.

The rules are simple:

1. Grab the badge (check my sidebar). Put it preferably in your blog’s sidebar and homepage.

2. Request to join What Made You Happy Today Facebook Group and wait for the admins to approve you.

3. Once approved, post your blog’s address by editing this DOCUMENT.

4. The admin has the right to kick you out from the group if you failed to follow rule number 1.

5. The main purpose of this Meme is to post daily (see title). However, not everyone can do it everyday. You have the option to do it weekly or monthly, it doesn’t matter. But I really hope you can spare even just 5 minutes of your time before going to bed to reflect and jot down your “happiness” for a certain day. You can make it like a photo journal or a diary. It doesn’t matter if it has 500 words or just 5 sentences or just 5 words or even just a word. If possible make a special category for this meme in your blog.

6. Share your daily posts on our FB group wall and let it be open for everyone to click, like and comment. We will have some comment exchange their also. But for now, we’re just starting so we will see how much people will participate.

7. There will be a separate rules for the FB group. (re: comment exchange, posting, profanity, etc. etc.)

So there you go guys, I hope you’ll find this fun, inspiring and fulfilling at the same time. Join me in counting my blessings and start counting yours too. :)

If you have more questions (and suggestions) please drop a comment below. I will try my best to answer everything. :)

Piggy Bank Your Cents

Money is money. No matter how big or small it is, it’s money. But most of us are not really aware of the importance of coins, especially the centavos. For a place like the Philippines where the value of centavos is a trash to almost everybody, we seldom give any attention to the amount of centavos that we ignore every single day. But for us here in Israel, a single 10 cents of shekel is equivalent to 1 peso (and sometimes more).

Most of them here ignore their agorots (cents) because it has a very low value on them like how we treat our cents too. However, for me who is aware of the 10 times value of their money compared to our money, every single Israeli cent counts.

That ideology led me to buy this penny can where I can drop every single coin ignored and making a goal of filling it to the top. However, I recently noticed that I always have a couple of 10 and 5 shekel coins. 10 shekel coin is equal to 100 pesos and 5 is 50 pesos. So I decided, that instead of filling up my penny can with cents, I will drop my every spare of 10 and 5 shekels to save more.

10 and 5 shekels

I started a month ago and I was really surprised that my penny can is getting heavier. I’m just dropping in some coins from time to time and I’m not even aware of how much money I threw in already. Just imagine if It’s already filled up. I could have thousands of shekels inside and multiply it by ten. Whew!

I’m planning to have another penny can for my cents because it’s filling up my coin purse already. I’m just too excited of how much I can save by just setting aside my spare coins. People may think that piggy banks or penny cans are just for kids, it’s not true. Adults can do this too, and we can even fill it up faster because we’re working and we’re dealing with money everyday. Just drop in your loose money or pennies and it will eventually mount up. You’ll be surprised of the amount of money that has accumulated inside by just unconsciously dropping in your coins.

For toddler moms out there, you can also teach your children how to save by giving them piggy banks. In this way, you can instill to your children the value of money which is very important for bringing them up.

Saving money is really a chore for us especially if you are living from pay check to pay check. But there are good amount of small money somewhere in your house, wallet or bags that you just ignore. These are not hundreds, these are centavos. But they will eventually become thousands if you just know how to collect and “piggy banked” them.

This post is my Project WMYHT 100 Days Challenge: Day 8. Hurrah for my heavier Penny Can. Wooottt!

A Friday Rant!

It’s not probably my day today. Aside from the fact that it’s March 9 and my subconscious was telling me to send the darn SMS no matter how much I convinced myself to let the day pass without thinking about it. But yeah, I was tormented by my large ego and missed out the chance to actually greet him haphueyy barfday.

Anyways, it doesn’t matter anymore. When the clock rang at 6pm here and 12 midnight there, I realized it was already March 10 and the whole thing just went back to normal. Normal = I don’t give a F* to anything.

Now, my laptop kept on popping a “your computer is low in memory, close and restart all the programs..blah blah” alert. As far as I know, I have 4G of RAM inside and I have a huge free space for at least 3 sets of Photoshop CS5. (just trying to use Cs5 as example coz the file is pretty huge). Then again I remember, it started when I downloaded that editing software (i forgot the name) but immediately uninstalled it because I don’t have any serial number for it. But then this problem with low in memory occurred and my browser kept on crashing. I was so pissed and I didn’t know what to do. Microsoft suggested to increase the virtual memory and all those stuffs. I tried to fix it but to no avail.

I was very tired of dealing with all those errors that I decided to reset my laptop into factory settings. Darn! I totally hate it. Because I need to start from scratch and it takes forever to finish. (not really, but I’m very impatient so for me it’s like 500 years). So I made all the back up, rolled up my sleeves and get it done. I really don’t know what happened so I can’t share any tips about it. All I know is that I have to hit the f11 key from start up to get this whole thing work again.

Yes, it was a bit cranky and depressing day but I still found some reasons to be happy. I cooked 2 dishes today. I will post the recipes tomorrow so you might want to visit my other blog (A Dice of Spice) tonight or tomorrow. I am also happy that I was able to resist my cravings for chocolates today. So I guess, these are my Project WMYHT 100 Day Challenge: Day 7. Ahh, thank you Lord for making me “mababaw”, for letting me know that happiness can be found in things that I love to do and for letting me feel that I’m still a human being. Impatient and childish. But despite of all these “irregularities” in my life right now, I still know where I am and I’m getting better.

And yeah, thank you God for the f11 key. :P

Picasa New Editing Effects

It was yesterday when I updated my Picasa but I thought it was just another update they throws in from time to time. Not until today when I decided to edit my photos for my food blog that I saw the new features/editing effects that you can use to edit your pictures! Yey!

I am a Photoshop dummy. I swear I don’t have any idea what layers are. Alright, not to brag or anything but I can whip up a few html coding (naks) and a few blog design tweaks ‘(although I prefer my blog to be this simple) BUT! I really can’t do anything in Photoshop. Ok, enough for this self-degradation. All I want to say is, I am soooooo happy that Picasa came up with all these amazing editing effects (like lomo, vintage-y, cross process thingy). You still have the old options for exposures, brightness and stuffs but they added these 24 awesome presets which you can use to transform your pictures into something edgy and fab.

Here’s a sample. It’s one of the pictures I used for my A Dice of Spice entry today. It’s an effect called 1960′s. It’s kinda lame because I made a little tweak with the brightness and contrast and whatevs. But I’m still practicing and definitely enjoying it. I love instagram and camera+ and this is kinda the same but a lot of effects to choose from.

Obviously, this is my Project WMYHT 100 Days Challenge: Day 7. I know I’m so mababaw but that’s me :) If you want to download Picasa with it’s full feature then click HERE.

Tomorrow is Friday, March 9. It’s supposed to be a special day but… well, cest la vie.
